Overclocking

With temperatures sitting at a reasonable position at our usual settings of 1.3V and 4.3GHz we decided to gun for a little higher. Raising the baseclock by 1MHz saw the CPU frequency rise to just under 4.35GHz, but we were met with several failed modules in Prime95.

We headed back into the EFI and gradually increased the CPU voltage until things became stable, with the Turbo Loadline Calibration set for good measure. With 1.32V applied, the CPU was quite happy to churn through a good session of Prime95's smallFFT test before we headed on to the benchmarks.

Again, the temperatures were eventually the bottleneck, and you'd need custom water cooling to get any further with our CPU.

EFI

Gigabyte's EFIs aren't as slick as MSI's or Asus's at present but they're not far off. If you're just looking for a basic overclock, then the frequency controls for the CPU and memory can all be accessed on the same page, as well as realtime displays of what your tweaking has done.

The rest are split into sections, with different pages for the CPU and memory and again for the voltages. Apart from the ability to update the BIOS without a CPU, there are few other features to get excited about with the EFI - it's detailed, to the point and easy to use.
